5/4/12 Last week ended with the bittersweet end of post production on the short film I scored, C.B., which will be playing at SIFF. The first showing is Memorial Day, May 28, 2012 at the Uptown in Queen Anne at 4pm. This short was such a joy to work on and turned out really great. It's always nice when a project is complete, but sad when you enjoyed working with everyone and really had fun with the creative process. Thanks. 4/18/12 The show my band, Vinca Minor, is playing on 4/22/12 received a nice plug in the current issue of The Stranger: Yards, Post Paint, Vinca Minor (Comet) The side project of Southerly's Krist Krueger, Yards essays expansive, elegant post-rock in the vein of genre standard-bearers such as Godspeed You! Black Emperor and Rachel's. He achieves a panoramic, orchestral grandeur that avoids the sometimes sentimental bombast of some others in this realm, like Explosions in the Sky and Sigur Rós. Vinca Minor (the artistic vehicle for Seattle-via-Detroit musician Matt Menovcik, ex-Saeta and Ms. Led) specializes in an eerie breed of minimalist loner-folk rock somewhere between early Red House Painters and Jandek. DAVE SEGAL 4/17/12 One of the shorts I scored recently, Zinka, by the Collin Joseph Neal will be showing at this year's STIFF on Thursday, May 10 at 8:00pm at the Grand Illusion Cinema in Seattle. It's a really great short and I'm very proud to have been a part of it. This weekend, I will be finishing up recording for the SIFF Fly Film Challenge film I am working on called I Like You. I'm really happy with this score and very excited to have a live string quartet performing the pieces. I'm especially happy with the song I wrote for the end credits, which was translated into and sung in French, by my extremely talented friend, Ines Andrade. Her vocals really make the song. Thanks, Ines. 4/10/12 I'm working on the construction of this new site. Changes should be happening quickly. Winter 2010 - 11 Current projects are working on a dance piece with Ines Andrade, still writing songs with Michael Halen, and working on new Vinca Minor music. Spring 2010 - Sound designer for the film The Memory of Rain by Alex Gonzalez - Co-composer for the film Citizen Mayor by Koi Walker. www.citizenmayor.org - Collaborating with a lyricist Michael Halen. - Created a short film with footage from the 2010 Gulf Oil Spill.
